What RentMath is

RentMath is a set of free calculators and plain-language guides built on the official rules, with the source shown beside each number. It is made for general information. It is not legal advice and does not replace a lawyer, a paralegal or the tribunal. Results are estimates that work for most ordinary tenancies.

Not a government site

RentMath is an independent site and is not connected to the Landlord and Tenant Board (Tribunals Ontario) or the Residential Tenancies Branch. Their decisions and publications are the final word, and we link to them so you can see the original.

Rules change, so we show our dates

Guidelines are announced every year and laws can change. We show when we last checked each figure and update them as new numbers are published. Some units and situations follow special rules, and a few facts are still being confirmed on official pages. Where that is the case, the page says so and points you to the tribunal.

Before you act

For a notice, a deposit or anything that could end up in a dispute, take a minute to check the result against the official source linked on the page. If your situation is unusual, the tribunal or branch above can tell you for free, and a licensed paralegal or lawyer can advise you on your own case.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, RentMath and its owner are not liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense that arises from using the site, relying on its results, or being unable to use it. Nothing here limits any right you have that cannot be limited by law.

Links to other sites

The site links to government and other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content.
